The Next Big Thing…..Wedding Trends 2012

The 2011 wedding season has only just got into full swing but that doesn’t mean that couples aren’t already starting to plan their 2012 celebrations.  We’re getting lots of enquiries and bookings for next year and it’s great to know that brides are, as ever, forward-thinking and organised. They’re not alone.  Designers, florists, cake makers are all setting out their trends for next year.  Here are some of our predictions for upcoming trends in all things wedding…

As you would expect with a wedding dress, they continue to have a sophisticated and elegant feel but for 2012 there will be a move towards more vintage looks.  Many styles will have a romantic Victorian flair.  Think corsets, soft layers, ruffles, lace, full skirts and high collars.  These are the details you’ll see on the bridal runways for 2012.

You only have to look to Vera Wang’s 2012 collection to see such wistful nostalgia.  Not just in the designs but also in the shades.  Colours are dusty and come from a by-gone era – light aqua, gold and taupe. Pairing these hues with accent shades of grey, chestnut and beige gives the traditional look a modern edge.  Such tonal, soft, organic colours work equally well with ivory, cream and white and so can either be incorporated into the bridal gown or chosen for the bridesmaids dresses (why not opt for having a separate reception dress a la Kate Middleton?  A great way to be more daring and play around with colours). And if that’s too vintage, they can always be used in floral arrangements and decorative accents.

Keeping with the romantic and nostalgic theme, flowers will be big full blooms. Peonies will be the perfect pairing to more classic gowns.  If peonies aren’t your thing (who could not love such a gorgeous bloom?!) opt for soft shades of ivory or light pink.  Add extra romance with subtle adornments of pearls.  Simply stunning.

The seasonal shades will be delicate and natural.  Organic hues will give a feeling of wellbeing and tranquility.  Neutrals will be big news but don’t just think beige and gold. Be daring in a subtle way with soft aquas, light tangerines, celedon greens and dove greys.

The primary wedding cake will follow the theme of delicate and sophisticated.  No garish colours for the new season. But for 2012 everyone’s talking about ‘Groom cakes’.  We mean traditional pies, cheeses, traditional desserts a plenty.  2012 will be the year to bring back the dessert trolley!  But don’t worry, cupcakes are still massive news and always look stunning.

Well, that’s our round up for what’s hot for weddings in 2012.  Are you getting married next year?  What are your themes?  Please let us know.
